Business history: In 1970 when Bob Yesue purchased what is now Roc’s Unisex Hair Salon from Rocco Foti, it was a two-chair barbershop. Since then, the business has grown into a two-story, 22-chair family-oriented day spa. Both Bob’s wife, Jan, and their daughter, Heather Yesue Smith, are actively involved with running the salon. “Roc’s is a family-run business,” Bob Yesue said. Services offered: The barbershop side of the business still provides standard cuts, trims and buzzes, but, with 25 professional stylists and barbers, Roc’s also offers a full range of beautification services and products for women and children. In addition to being a Paul Mitchell Signature Salon, the spa offers in-house massage therapy (including hot stone, deep tissue and trigger point massage), waxing, tanning, manicures, pedicures and the latest in color and hair treatments. Another recently added feature includes laser hair removal, which, according to Bob, has become increasingly more popular among both men and women.
Latest trends? “Lots of layers,” stylist Laurie Keating said. “Curls and bangs are in.” She added that recently the Victoria Beckham short to long bob has been the single most requested style.
The key to your success? “My attitude has stayed consistent,” Bob said. “We offer quality products at a reasonable price.” Marsha Mendys has worked for the salon for 25 years. “This is a relaxed environment,” Mendys said. “We are one big family and we have fun.”
